Annual Autism Fair

On April 26th, we celebrated Autism Awareness Month by holding our 4th Annual Autism Fair. More than 100 guests enjoyed therapy dogs, a bounce house, caricaturist, face painting, yoga, swimming, emergency vehicles from Webster Fire Department and Ambulance, visiting pets from Never Say Never Stables and a silent auction featuring artwork created by our Autism Skill Building participants. The silent auction raised almost $900 which will be used to purchase sensory related toys and possibly an addition to the playground. Thank you to all who attended and supported this event!

Autism Skill Building Graduation

Matthew A. joined Autism Skill Building in January of 2012. Since then, he has participated in numerous activities and outings learning new social skills and practicing them in the community. He is a role model to the younger children in the program, constantly encouraging them to speak out about Autism and challenging them in daily conversations. Matthew is also a wonderful volunteer, always eager to help out with events such as the Autism Walk in September and CDS Monarch’s Annual Autism Fair. In June, Matthew will be turning 16 and therefore graduating from Autism Skill Building. The lessons he has learned and the friendships he has made during his time at CDS Monarch will only help him flourish as he reaches for his goals. Congratulations Matt!

"Got Dreams" Nominee

Family Support Services at CDS Monarch was nominated for the 2013 “Got Dreams” Award.  The "Got Dreams" Award was established in 2007 as part of the Monroe County System of Care movement, a children’s mental health initiative. It is an event that seeks to promote the values of the System of Care by recognizing youth with emotional and behavioral challenges, their families, as well as, other adults and organizations that support them. Several staff represented CDS Monarch at the awards dinner where we received a plaque in recognition of our nomination.

Community Connections

On March 16, 2013 our recreation program received honorable mentions for a project that was entered into the Williamson Central Learning Fair. Each month our recreation programs meet at the Williamson middle school to work in conjunction with the students there as part of a peer mentoring group. They engage in a wide variety of activities ranging from mad libs and storytelling, to mini Olympics and Gak experiments. This year the peer mentoring group has been working on quilt squares that were designed by each participant and then entered into the fair with a brief description of the group’s purpose. In June the quilt squares will be put together and displayed at the Wolf Life Transitions Center.
