Provider Spotlight: ARISE

Established: 1979

Mission: To work with people of all abilities to create a fair and just community in which everyone can fully participate.

Developmental Disability Services:    

  • Advocacy & Accessibility - Accessibility Resource Center, Advocacy & support groups, Home modification program, Medical equipment loan closet, Public accommodation assistance, Ramp construction assistance, Systems advocacy
  • Basic Needs & Assistance - Benefits advocacy, Consumer-directed personal assistance, Housing advocacy, Information & referral, Medical service coordination, Peer counseling, Respite services (after school respite and in-home respite)
  • Education, Employment & Skill Building - Education advocacy, Employment programs (ACCESS-VR Entry Services, Direct job placement, Enhanced supported employment, Supported employment), Habilitation programs (community hab and day hab), Independent living skills training
  • Health & Wellness - Breast health awareness and outreach, Health care advocacy
  • Recreation & Art - ARISE & Ski, ARISE at the Farm (therapeutic horseback riding, inclusive camps, recreation activities, school break camp), Social and support groups
  • UNIQUE Art & Literary Magazine

Other Services: We work with people who have any type of disability offering most or all of the above services, and also:

  • Basic Needs & Assistance - Regional oversight for NYS Medicaid Waiver (Nursing Home Transition & Diversion), Persons with traumatic brain injury, Veterans outreach program
  • Education, Employment and Skill Building - Literacy zone partnership
  • Health & Wellness - Outpatient mental health services, School-based mental health program, Therapy groups

Number of Employees: 600

Number of Individuals Served: 4,000+

Coverage Area: Onondaga, Oswego, Madison, primarily.  A few programs cover those and three additional counties

Provider Spotlight: Exceptional Family Resources

Established: Formed in 1974; Incorporated in 1976;  First service provided in 1978

Mission: Exceptional Family Resources (EFR) partners with individuals with disabilities and their families, providing services, information, advocacy and other supports to enhance lives and foster community acceptance.

Executive Director/CEO: David Wissink

Developmental Disability Services: Community Habilitation, Waiver Respite (4 different services), Non-Waiver Respite, Family Support Services (5 different services), MSC, Family Education and Training, Regional Office for North Central Region of Parent To Parent of New York State Supported Employment, Enhanced Supported Employment, Information and Referral/Advocacy (as part of this, we publish a bi-annual Resource Manual for DD services in Onondaga County)

Number of Individuals Served: Over 500/year

Coverage Area: Mostly Onondaga County; North Central Region of Parent To Parent of NYS is 8 counties
