June 2014

Community Connection

Message from the Board

It appears summer may just finally be here!

We are very excited to report that we are in the final stages of review with the NYSDOH for the iCircle Care MLTC application. We expect to be operational by this summer.  We look forward to sharing more in the upcoming months!

We continue to meet and engage providers in the iCircle Prime (DISCO) network. Yesterday, June 4, iCircle staff traveled to meet with providers in the Southern Tier Region.   The meeting was a great chance to connect with and update providers on the status of the MLTC and DISCO, as well as, discuss the DSRIP.   Thank you to STIC for hosting our first of many provider meetings this year!   We look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming Rochester provider meeting next week, June 12 at Catholic Charities and in Syracuse on June 17 at OCL.

Thank you for staying engaged and involved with the development of iCircle Services! Enjoy your week!

OPWDD Updates

Please be advised that the Quarterly People First Waiver Videoconference Update for Discussion Boards and Providers scheduled for this Friday, June 6, 2014, has been cancelled.  OPWDD stated this presentation will be rescheduled and an announcement will be forthcoming once a new date and time has been determined.

As you may have heard, Acting Commissioner Laurie Kelly has resigned from her position effective June 1. Executive Deputy Commissioner Kerry Delaney will once again serve as Acting Commissioner and as Executive Deputy Commissioner as the search for a permanent OPWDD commissioner gets underway.

Awareness Month for Alzheimer's Disease

The month of June has been offically recognized as Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month.  Worldwide, there are at least 44 million people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, with that number set to skyrocket to 76 million by 2030 according to the Alzheimer’s Association.  In the United States, every 67 seconds someone develops Alzheimer’s Disease and more than 5 million Americans are living with the disease.  Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming server enough to interfere with daily tasks.   It is the most common form of dementia and it is not part of the normal aging process. Over 15.5 million family and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the United States.   You can join people from around the world on June 21, 2014 for the Alzheimer’s Association “Longest Day” to help raise awareness.   Learn more about Alzheimer’s Disease and events happening in June by visiting the Alzheimer’s Association website here.
