Community Connection

Message from the Board

Recently members of the iCircle Board traveled to Albany to meet with representatives from the Governor’s office, OPWDD, and DOH.   The Board discussed iCircle Care (our MLTC Plan) and the ways it would expand options for people and their families as health and medical issues arise. In addition, iCircle shared accomplishments to date, the steps we have taken to prepare for enrollment, our philosophy and approach to long-term care, as well as, discussed the provider network. All indications were very positive from DOH and OPWDD. We are excited to share that we have secured a readiness review date with the DOH in March! Over the next few weeks, iCircle will be busy preparing for readiness review. We will continue to update you on our progress.

Thank you for all your continued support!

Program Spotlight:  Centro de Oro

Centro de Oro is a social nutrition program for seniors in the community who are 60 years of age and older.   Ibero-American Action League has been offering this important program to the community for over 20 years. On any given day, you will find 50 to 60 seniors participating in the Center’s daily activities, which includes: offering nutritious, traditional dishes served at breakfast and lunch, arts & crafts, blood-pressure and diabetes checks; and weekly support groups offered for the seniors and their caregivers.

The Center also has a partnership with Nazareth College, which sends a nurse volunteer once a week to assist with its wellness program. The Center has a driver to provide transportation for the seniors. In addition, Ibero offers an integrated day habilitation without walls program at the Center.

Centro de Oro prides itself in offering a family systems approach to programs that are culturally relevant. The Center offers programs for seniors suffering with Dementia and provides support and management for those who have a chronic illness.   Every senior speaks Spanish, as does the staff providing services.   This adds a special touch for those being served!

“Ibero is proud to offer vital services, like Centro de Oro, to help families achieve and maintain economic, social, and cultural well-being,” stated Hilda Escher-Rosario, President & CEO of Ibero American Action League. “We offer these services to the seniors and families in our community to prevent isolation, to provide education and to ensure they are seeking the necessary health services they need.”

In addition to Centro de Oro, Ibero offers an Elderly Abuse Program. To learn more please visit http://www.iaal.org.
