iCircle's
Community Connection

Issue #41

Message from the Board

Greetings! We have spent the last week meeting and talking with several providers interested in becoming part of the iCircle network. In particular, we have seen an increased interest from those in our DISCO network to also become a provider for iCircle's pending Managed Long Term Care (MLTC) plan. Currently, the NYS Department of Health is reviewing the MLTC application and we hope to go through a readiness review process by early January. We appreciate the support and interest from the DISCO provider community to learn more about and join iCircle's MLTC network.

On Wednesday, November 13, iCircle Board Member, Sy Zielinski, had the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion sponsored by the Health Foundation for Western & Central New York. Sy was able to present on the transformation to managed care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as, share iCircle's philosophy and approach. A key area of focus he was able to share with providers, was direct feedback from individuals and their families gathered from survey and focus groups we conducted over the past year. iCircle was proud to be able to bring the voice of those we will serve to the over 125 people who were in attendance.

Thank you to all who have stayed engaged with us!

Today Show Spreads Awareness About Disabilities

Savannah Guthrie from NBC's Today Show did a feature spot that has brought some wonderful awareness about people with disabilities. We wanted to share this link with our network as an inspiration. This is a great reminder of how far we have come and how much more we have to do to bring acceptance and community based awareness and opportunities for the people we serve. Savannah's grandparents are not much different than the families we serve today, who still want inclusion, opportunity, and a sense of normalcy for their loved one with a disability. iCircle gives kudos to all the families, like Savannah's, who have and continue to pave the way for inclusion and acceptance for people, like Pierce, in our everyday society.

We know there are hundreds of stories just like this across our network and we want to publish them! Please share them today by sending an email to info@icirclecny.org. We would love to showcase and learn about our local inspirations from across the Central New York region!
